Personal injuries can take on a variety of forms. Car accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, and other related incidents all create stress and chaos for those involved. Contact the Ellis Law Firm of North Louisiana to review any of your personal injury claims.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT?

  • Contact Law Enforcement

If you are on a roadway, contact the law enforcement to investigate the accident and render an accident report. If in a parking lot, still contact law enforcement to determine if they can provide a parking lot incident report.

  • Gather Information

Attempt to get as much information as possible. Get the other driver’s name, address, phone number, and insurance information. Get as many photos as you can of the vehicles. If able, get photos of the vehicle prior to moving them from the accident location.

  • Get Medical Treatment (if needed)

If you are feeling ill- effects from a car accident and have not been examined by a medical professional, you need to be checked out. Injuries from car accidents can linger for weeks, months, or even years. The sooner you begin treatment, the more likely you are to have a better overall medical outcome.

  • Get Damage Estimates

If your vehicle has sustained damage, you need to start gathering damage estimates from repair shops you trust.

  • Contact the Insurance Companies

Contact your insurance company, the other drivers’ insurance company, or both to determine the procedure in place for the payment of your medical bills and vehicle damage. You’ll need to know the claim number for your accident to submit to medical providers and repair shops.

WHAT IF I AM INJURED AT A STORE?

  • Contact Store Management

If you are injured in a store, you need to speak with someone in charge. You need to have an accident/incident report completed.

  • Gather Information

Attempt to get as much information as possible. Get the store’s name, address, phone number, and insurance information. If possible, get photos of where your accident occurred and what you believe to be the cause of your accident (e.g., liquid on the floor, uneven surface, etc.)

  • Get Medical Treatment (if needed)

If you are injured, you need to be checked out by a medical professional. The sooner you begin treatment, the more likely you are to have a better overall medical outcome.

  • Contact the Insurance Company

Contact the store’s insurance company to determine the procedure in place for the payment of your medical bills and status of their investigation. You’ll need to know the claim number for your accident to submit to medical providers.

WHAT IF I AM INJURED AS A RESULT OF MEDICAL MALPRACTICE?

  • Gather Information

Critical to medical malpractice claims are dates and medical records. Document the doctors that you saw prior to the alleged act of medical malpractice and any after the act of malpractice.  If possible, obtain a copy of these medical records.

  • Contact an Attorney

Medical malpractice claims are unique to other personal injury claims as there are procedures that must be completed prior to filing a suit. An attorney is essential to ensuring that this procedure is followed correctly and that your claim is heard.
