Phillip Ellis was raised near the Kisatchie National Forest in east central Claiborne Parish. He attended Cedar Creek High School in Ruston and graduated in 2005. Phillip obtained a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2009 with cum laude honors.
Phillip then pursued a career in law enforcement with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a correctional deputy at the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center near Minden, Louisiana. In May 2011, Phillip graduated the North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy with academic honors.
In August 2012, Phillip began his pursuit of a legal career by attending the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, Mississippi. While there, he served as an officer for both the Moot Court Board and Law Review and worked a research assistant for (then) Professor Patricia Bennett (now Dean of Mississippi College School of Law). Phillip also completed an externship as a law clerk in the Third Judicial District Court for Union and Lincoln parishes, working under Judges Cynthia Woodard, James Boddi, and Jay McCallum.
In December 2014, Phillip graduate from the Mississippi College School of Law with magna cum laude honors, and passed the Louisiana State Bar exam in February 2015.
After obtaining his law license, Phillip began work with the Louisiana Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General in Monroe, Louisiana, serving as an attorney in the litigation division of the DOJ and defending the State of Louisiana in workers’ compensation, general liability, medical malpractice, civil rights, and road hazard claims.
In September 2019, Phillip left the Louisiana Department of Justice to establish the Ellis Law Firm of North Louisiana in Farmerville. The Ellis Law Firm of North Louisiana is dedicated to providing honest, straightforward, and fair representation for its clients. Phillip will make every effort to help those who need legal assistance or to provide recommendations to other providers or entities as needed.
